LAYOUT DESIGN

BOOZE & VINYL

For this mock project, I redesigned Booze & Vinyl, a reference book that pairs classic vinyl records with cocktail recipes inspired by the music. The challenge was to create a more user-friendly layout that allowed readers to easily navigate and reference the book’s many sections, while also transforming large blocks of text into beautiful and functional design elements. My goal was to preserve the charm of classic music and timeless cocktails, while also giving it a modern twist that strikes the balance between functionality and a piece of design that could be used to decorate and enrich the home.

BRUNO PRESS CATALOGUE

For this project, I designed a 90-page catalogue for Bruno Press which is known for its beautiful greeting cards, posters, and linoleum-carved images printed on century old letterpresses. The catalogue serves as a showcase of her unique greeting card line which stands out for their distinct personality: sweary, quirky, and unlike anything else on the market. Designed for promotion at events and as a showcase for potential wholesale buyers with, the catalogue highlights the range of the lineup and sandwiches it all between beautiful images, organized texts, and sharp anecdotes. It’s a functional yet fun piece that helps buyers easily familiarize themselves with the entire collection and understand the heart and humor behind the brand.

GOOD MUSHROOM // BAD MUSHROOM

For this project I completed as a student at MCAD, I redesigned a book about identifying mushrooms that are safe for human consumption and those that are not. The goal was to improve the book's usability and functionality, and design choices had to be informed by market research and user studies. To make the information more clear and consistent, I standardized the format for each mushroom entry. I also created an index and redesigned the table of contents to better align with how users typically navigate back and forth through a reference book. These choices made it easier for users to quickly find the information they need, especially considering the environment most users are in when utilizing the book.

SCROLL BOOKLET

For this project, I designed a booklet to accompany an incredibly beautiful (and monumental) 30-page scroll, created over the course of 9 months during the pandemic by Bruno Press. This scroll illustrates the Benedictine Rule, and serves as a beautiful manifestation of craftsmanship, respect for heritage, and finding the value in what is old and making it meaningful for the present.

The scroll was packaged as a traveling exhibition, and the booklet provides insight into the entire journey and process behind the project. It highlights how the collaboration came to be, who Bruno Press is, and how common ground and mutual respect was found through shared values of community, legacy, dedication, and heritage.

OPEN EYES!

For this project completed at MCAD, I was challenged to design three separate yet unified posters for a mock event at the Walker. The design process began by listening to experimental audio and using it as inspiration to explore different methods of mark-making, and exploring how audio elements could be translated into visual ones. Each poster stands on its own and is alive with texture and experimental type.
